How to Preserve Your Veggies AND Their Nutrients!!

How to preserve nutrients in vegetables and fruits

First, attempts to plant as many seeds as possible on a limited part of the field have a negative impact on the crop. Secondly, the soil is not eternal. Throughout the history of mankind, people actively used natural resources, including the soil, and now it is simply depleted. With each new decade, there is less and less nutrient in the earth, and more and more fertilizer is needed.

One way or another, vegetables and fruits no longer charge health as they used to, and something must be done with it. Fortunately, there are some tips to help get the most out of fruits and vegetables.

Buy should be what grows next

The more time a vegetable or fruit spends “on the road,” the less vitamins and minerals remain in it. Since not everyone can afford to have their own vegetable garden, it’s worth choosing vegetables and fruits on the market whenever possible and paying attention to the product’s “homeland”.

Frozen vegetables are great

Common sense says that you need to buy vegetables only fresh. However, sometimes a product frozen immediately after harvesting contains much more nutrients than a fresh one, which took more than one day to transport. Therefore, if there is a choice, for example, between fresh broccoli from Poland and freezing, it is better to take a freeze.

Do not judge the book on the cover

Large, glossy fruit attracts attention. However, no matter how tempting they look, it should be remembered that their brightness speaks of a huge amount of pesticides. Organic apples can be small and unpretentious, but will bring more health benefits.

All manipulations with vegetables and fruits should be kept to a minimum.

Experts advise to literally touch fruits and vegetables as little as possible, that is, not to cut them, and if cut, into large pieces. Why? The fact is that in contact with air a vegetable or fruit loses its beneficial properties. The more they cut, the greater the area of contact with air becomes.

Vegetables are best eaten raw.

Should not generally cook vegetables, if possible. If they still need to be prepared, it is necessary to reduce the cooking time, thus the useful properties of the product will be preserved or limited to minimal losses. You should also be aware that the more a vegetable is in contact with water, the more substances it loses. Therefore, the best ways to cook vegetables are steaming and frying. Vegetables can not be digested, should not be allowed to soak.

Products in our time, of course, are not the same, and now we need to treat the choice of any product with care and attention. However, everyone is able to follow a few simple rules to make their diet healthy and balanced.
